Random question for the hive mind.
I've noticed in all the costume dramas I've been watching, what appears to be a wider back then the front at the bodice. Is this because all the girls have no chests or is the bottom of the bodice not to go under their busts?
My fashion plate has such a narrow bust. I assumed it was fashion plate trickery. But after watching these movies I wonder if I am missing something. or is the fashion plate and movie stars all A cups and this D cup gal doesn't have a chance. I will just have a larger bodice.

The one that caused the question was Death Comes to Pemberly. I was making adjustments to the mock-up looked up and one of the gals was turning. Decent mid width back little bitty front. Eyeballed my fashion plate, eyeballed said character again. "what the flying flit!!!" And then I posted on here. ;)

I see what you mean! I've never seen it, but I googled some images. If you're talking about Anna Maxwell Martin's character, she does seem to have a very small chest in real life. Those of us with fuller busts need more fabric to cover the real estate!
