JAE 2016
My Happiness Jar post for Jan 24 can be summed up in this pic.
Costuming, friends, actually danceing a little bit, and feeling pretty!
My orginal plan was to finish the Vernet dress for the JAE. I am still miserably behind on that project. Though I have found new inspiration and mojo for said project after this weekend. So maybe soon progress will be seen.
My next plan was to just make a quick spencer to go over the gown I wore to the tea last year. I pulled out a scrap piece I had from my 1920s Robe de style. I got stuck a little on sleeves. I didn't really want to cover up the embroidery on my gown and the more I looked the sleeveless one had a more evening look to them to me than sleeved ones did. But I started feeling guilty that I was just a big copy cat because Katherine did a sleeveless spencer last year. She told me to stop being silly so I went with my plan. I loved the shape but felt it needed some sort of decoration and when I tried it on I had the impulse to make a little tail thingie (for lack of proper terminology). Then it grew into it need to be an over gown. So much for a quick and easy project. Katherine helped me again with a trim idea and also by not effectively forbidding me from making an overgown. :P I tried for three hours to get two variations of the 1st trim idea. It didn't quite work out so I search fashion plates and found the perfect one that didn't fight me. I luckily also had another 2 1/2 yard piece of fabric leftover that was perfect for the skirt of the overgown. It took me just around a week to finish and honestly was on the easier side. It was all stash and best of all I like it! So much for me saying absolutely no more Regency.

More pics. All thanks to
twilatee I was flustered after I had finished dressing and didn't want to deal with camera juggling. Thankfully she didn't mind AND she took some wonderful pics.

I had a lot of fun. I tried something new this time and wore ballet slippers. I felt more secure in them then most shoes, so I actually tried to dance. I managed 2 dances before I had to take a very needed beak. While the pain was only mild the ankles themselves were oddly weak. By the end I was debating trying again but with how swollen and weirdly bruised looking my ankles were when I took off everything that night and how very sore I was in the morning it was probably good I didn't try and dance more. Though my goal for next year is to try and attend at least one of the dance classes, so I have a clue what I am doing. That way I can try and dance at least one dance per set. My hope is that, that would give my ankles enough rest between dances to not hate me or to get to that weirdly weak state again.. But yay Ballet slippers. May not be historically accurate, 'but I do what I want.'
It was also enjoyed watched the dancers. Some of those dances are VERY pretty. It was nice to talk with the other gals who went, when they weren't out on the dance floor. I'm always left wishing I didn't live in the middle of nowhere. And that I wasn't so shy. But grateful my middle of nowhere is still in drivable distance to events. :) My next two events are cons but after that is a Victorian ball. I'm excited!

Jan 24, 2016- Finishing my Art appreciation presentation at a resonable hour, so I don't feel like a failure who skipped town to play pretty pretty princess and didn't finish her homework.
