I have been trying to figure out something all night as I've been ironing these pleats. I might be over thinking things so I figured I would just ask. My knife pleat panel is 25" long. I know there will be a line of stitching, maybe two right next to each other at the top to hold the panel to the base of the underskirt. Should I have anything at the bottom. While the pleats are on the ironing board they look awesome. But as they fall over the side they open up and are not as cute. I'm afraid at the bottom the will be all splayed apart and ugly, but I don't think I want to restrict movement of them either. I am probably way over thinking this, and need to be told to stop thinking and just iron.

I've left them open on the two skirts I've done, but they did sew a tape behind them. I think catching the back of the pleat? I'm not positive!

They look awesome so far!

That was my thought--sew a tape to the inside edge of the pleats to keep them from straying too far.

Thank you so much for replying! I think I will tell my brain to just hush. Attach it and then decide. But I am happy to have a plan B with the tape if it doesn't lay the way I want it to. I wasn't fond of sewing the bottom down. Tacking it to a tape sounds so much better.

In my thoughts last night I had debated tacking it to the base skirt but I think I like the tape idea better. YAY for a plan B in case I hate how it lies when just left free.

I like the tape idea! What I've done on vintage skirts with pleats is to tack the inside pleat together about 1/8" from the fold. It's nearly invisible, especially for shorts and knee-length skirts.
