Apr. 25th, 2014 08:23 amI know I said I would have a Wonder Con wrap up, and I promise I still will. I have just had a lot going on over here and have been trying to keep a few steps ahead with school which is getting harder as we move into the last month of the semester. So far with school I am doing pretty well grade wise. "A"s in both Math and Nutrition. An A or B in Speech, I won't know for sure until he gives us our grades back for the last speech and midterm we did. I am struggling with Sociology though. I still love the teacher, but I don't like how he grades. He doesn't prepare us in the least for what's on the test, just that we have to study the whole book. So I got a C on the midterm. He also has pop quizzes on material we should of read ahead on but we haven't covered in class. I have failed 2 out of 3 of them. :( But what gives me some relief that I don't feel like a total failure and just give up is 95% of the class has failed all 3. AND if he graded the midterms on a curve I would have a high B low A, but of course he doesn't.... That class has definitely given me the most grief and it would be nice to hate it but I really do like the teacher. He has great stories that help me relate to the info. Oh well.... it is what it is, so I just need to study harder and get a good grade on the Final.
Some good news, has been the labor board dispute that the private prison company I was working for has finally been settled. Short sum up was the company was under-staffing us, which means we were working more 12 hours shifts then we were working 8 and they were underpaying us by 6-7 dollars. Labor board found out and told them they had to start paying us wage determination, starting the day they found out. The company tried to fight it, so the labor board said, "fine take us to court, we win you have to pay them from the start of the current contract". It took around a year and a half and went up the court systems but they lost, all the while we were still racking up 12 hour shifts. We got the letters in the mail on Monday with the totals the checks will be. CRAP! We still have to see how much they are going to take out in taxes but we already know we will have enough to pay off my car, take the trip to Japan to visit our God daughters, and put enough in savings to have a really decent rainy day fund. After that we're not sure it depends how much Uncle Sam wants. I have been saying several prayers of thanks though. That company was evil, but with this settlement we will be in a good place financially where I can stop fighting with myself on whether I am making the right decision of going back to school versus working.
On that note I need to get to school. I promise the Wonder Con wrap up this weekend after I finish my Nutrition project.
