Costume College
Aug. 10th, 2014 06:18 pmI did a quick sum up of Costume College on my blog. Its mostly about what I wore, which in no way sums up Costume College. So this post will hopefully fill in the blanks. Even though I tried to take more pictures this year, I still missed lots of fabulous costumers.
By the time we got down to the pool party I think people had already started to leave. I think the costume that stands out the most for me was
bauhausfrau 's Effie Trinket. She swears the shoes weren't that bad, but they hurt me just looking at them. Which of course makes her fabulous for wearing them! There were others like the 18th century Effie,
the_aristocat's beautiful gown,
koshka_the_cat's angry bird dress, (I saw it last year but it still makes me giddy) and
gilded_garb and
girliegirl32786's nod to Sherlock. But I have no pictures!!!!
The next morning I had to take an hour or so to myself so I missed Kendra class. It was a combination of overtaxing myself the day before, (so in hindsight waking up at 6 am taking a Final, driving down to Woodland Hills then the Fabric district and back to Woodland Hills was a dumb idea,) not enough sleep, (I was stressing because it was the first time I had roomed with my roomates. Stupid reason to be stressing but I was,) not knowing where anything was, (I hadn't unpacked and organized anything yet) and anxiety over teaching for the first time. I had a minor cry, organized all my things, got dressed very SLOWLY and fixed a gathering problem on my Gala dress. After that and a pep talk from my husband, I was ready to face the world.
I was still nervous for my class but that's a given if you know me. It didn't go exactly as I had planned. I missed a few slides, finishing the button took longer then I had predicted so I felt like I was up there looking stupid for far to long, and I ended the class with tons of time to spare. Even with that said I got a lot of positive feedback and have plans to make the class even better. If you took my class I would love to hear feedback, good or bad as long as its constructive.

Laurie Tavan took this picture during my class and I just adore it!
I was going to wear my Captain America but my partner in crime wasn't able to get her costume completed AND with the heat I knew if I took my costume off I wouldn't put another on.
gilded_garb and
jennylafleur helped me accessorize my wig so I felt 18th c decadent.

I didn't get a lot of pictures from the night because I ended up sitting most of the evening. I made the mistake of wearing new shoes to an interview on Tuesday which gave me lots of blisters.I was feeling each one of them by that evening. I did get pictures of the Game of Thrones group.

nuranar paisley wings

and
the_aristocat's gorgeous Bustle gown.

A hightlight of the evening was going across the street to PF Chang's for dinner. It was nice to just gab with friends.
The heat got to me Friday so I decided not to wear a costume Saturday. The one I had planned was much to heavy and I didn't want to sit on the sidelines at the Gala like I did during the ice cream social.
Again I didn't get enough pictures. The majority of the ones I did get were drunken dancing pictures, which I'll leave it to the people dancing to share if they want to.
One of my favorite costumes of the evening was
love3angle's Bete costume. I talked to her, gushed over how awesome it was but didn't take a picture, how?!?!?!?!
I almost did the same thing with
nuranar. Gushed over the perfect precision of her beading, admired her gorgeousness, but let her get away without a picture. Thankfully I was able to find her again and got a few with her.

A few more favorites from the night were all the other Robe de Styles, Carly's Frozen costume, a clever 60's dandelion, Kendra and her posse with their giant wigs, and the
the_aristocat's dress. I got a picture of the last one but it doesn't do the embroidery on the dress any justice.Sunday I woke up feeling tons better then the previous day so I went ahead and wore the Victorian Explorer I had planned for Saturday. The only hitch was my ankles were at full blown swollen stage so I wasn't able to button my boots up.

These two completely inspired me. I normally shy away from Regency styles, I think they look better on a smaller frame, but I adore these. If I make a Regency dress it will have to be a riding habit.
All of my limited classes were scheduled for Sunday. The Mechanical Wings class was cancelled but I enjoyed the other two I had. I learned to make kanzashi flowers and a few new pressing tricks.
Over the weekend Sara shared her love of Selfies and I think it should become a costuming 'thing.' Some of my favorite pictures from the weekend were the selfies.

I think I have already posted this but in case I haven't what photos I did get are on my Flickr.

If you saw me sitting most the time it was because of that.
