As much as I love the tea gown I don't have the same feelings for the ball gown. It's a love hate. There is plenty I do like about it, and it has a ton of potential.... But it's not there yet. Thankfully all doable fixes, just not doable in the time frame I have.

What's causing me to throw in the towel tonight, is surprisingly not the sleeves! They took 3 mock ups but they went together easy enough. But when I tried everything on its to short... uGH!!! The way I want to trim it it's an easy enough fix to add 3 inches or so, but still UGH!!! I MAYBE able to do it tomorrow but I kind of don't even want to try. I have enough on my list of things to do.
So I think I'm going to call it quits for the night. Cool off, recharge, and then in the morning get all the other bits that I need/want to do on my machine done and re-evaluate if I have enough time to add the skirt extension. And if I don't, try and not be bummed by it and rock my pretty dress that has non-sleevil sleeves, and gorgeous trim.
Edited to add: went looking at fashion plates. There are some really short ones all within the same time range as my dress. From the whole foot to this one.
So maybe I shouldn't feel bad for now and fix it later....

It's lovely! Admittedly I don't have much expertise in this time period but the length doesn't stand out as a problem to me.

THat makes me feel a bit better. I am in the I don't know this era well enough boat and it is screaming wrong to me. Maybe its my modern eyes.
Thank you.

What?!?!?! It's not too short at all! It looks perfect to me. Except for your sad puppy dog face, I think it looks fabulous!

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe its modern aesthetics that is causing me to spazz out. Thank you, I will carry on for now.

It's not too short!! My ballgown is ankle length. It is way better for dancing.  just pin up your petti if that is too long

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I was aiming for top of my shoes. I am not sure where it went wrong....

[identity profile] ktlovely.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely not too short! You see fashion plates where dresses look almost tea length in this period, so yours is perfectly in the range of acceptable lengths. Also, ball dresses should be short for dancing...it's kind of a 'reenactorism' to see girls swanning about at balls with floor-length skirts and long trains. If it still bugs you after you have a chance to wear it with fab accessories, great hair, etc, then by all means fix it because the most important thing is for YOU to be happy...but in terms of a period look, you're doing great.

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't aiming for any train because of dancing but I wasn't trying for that high. Because of everyones kind words I am going to leave it and see if it grows on me. I have a feeling I will be adding length later because as you said me feeling pretty is what I am aiming for overall. And it just feels wrong right now.

[identity profile] nuranar.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That is such a pretty design! I love that sleeves, what I can see of them. What fabric is that? It looks like an awesome tissue-weight silk. And you're SO right; in certain years, dresses were from medium short to VERY short, and yours is not to that level of short.

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
THank you! Don't tell the sleeves though. They didn't give me problems going in so they might spontaneous combust. I'm trying hard to be okay with the length. I think its modern aesthetics that's causing me grief.

[identity profile] starlightmasque.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so beautiful! The trim, the color, everything! Wow!

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] koshka-the-cat.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)

What they said! It's lovely, a good length, you're tired, and it needs ironing!

I'm going to be the idiot with the slight train :)

[identity profile] ktlovely.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well now I feel like a jerk! But I've done the train thing, too...so not a total jerk?

[identity profile] koshka-the-cat.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)

The idiot part refers more to the likelyhood of me personally stepping on it and wreaking havoc than anything else!

It's one of the periods where a ball train is ok, 1790s, but still not advisable for those like me :)

[identity profile] ktlovely.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I hear that. I, too, wore a 1790s dress with a train to my first regency ball. Pinned that sucker to my skirt in the first ten minutes because going ass over teakettle is definitely not my idea of period appropriate behavior ;)

[identity profile] missmalexander.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)

You're doing 1790's though right? Train is good for then. JA wrote about pinning trains up in Northanger Abbey, originally written in the 90's-00's. Not an idiot!

[identity profile] koshka-the-cat.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)

I am! And when I wore this dress dancing before, I pinned the overdress. I don't remember if I pinned the dress too...

I love that part too :)

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt you will be the only one with a train. :) And its correct with your dress. :)
Part of the problem might be me tired. I have been pulling all nighters all week. Also no time for my brain to process things like I normally do.

[identity profile] bauhausfrau.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks fine to me too but if you want to lengthen it I'm sure you can. Hang in there hon! And looking forward to us all hanging out on Sat!!

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
After everyone's kind words I am going to leave it the way it is for now. I will probably lengthen it later. It might just be my modern tastes but I want to feel pretty wearing it. I am so excited for Saturday. Not the dancing part unless I find a group that has two left feet also and are willing to just laugh at themselves. :)

[identity profile] mala-14.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it looks fantastic! Nothing wrong with the length. I hope you got a good sleep and it looks better to you today too.

[identity profile] isabelladangelo.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
..I guess I'm the only one that can't really see it? The photo is HUGE on my screen.

[identity profile] ktlovely.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Right click-->"Open image in new tab" lets me see it sized to fit my screen.

[identity profile] isabelladangelo.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
:-) That will work but resizing the image to a decent width in the html saves everyone's friend's page as well.

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't trying to ruin my friends page, I'm sorry. It happens when I post with my phone. Then when I check again on my phone it looks fine so I don't know that it is messing up everyone else's page. sorry again.

[identity profile] isabelladangelo.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry about it. Just do what I do when I get back to a computer - I double check and make sure the width is put into the img tag. :-)

[identity profile] isabelladangelo.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't look too short to me. Regency lengths were fickle things. There are several pantaloons where the hems were meant to be shown beneath the hems of the gowns. If it really bugs you, just make a petticoat to go underneath with a ton of lace at the hem.

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
hrmmmm that is an idea to ponder....

[identity profile] sewaddicted.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I dont think it's too short.

[identity profile] llyrafantasyfae.livejournal.com 2015-01-30 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, it might just be me.... I was aiming for top of my foot skimming.

[identity profile] sewaddicted.livejournal.com 2015-01-31 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
You don't want that in a ballgown as it becomes close to a tripping hazard - for yourself!

[identity profile] suededsilk.livejournal.com 2015-01-31 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So pretty! I'll defer to those who know Regency on the length, but it looks fabulous to me. The trim is really lovely.

[identity profile] the-aristocat.livejournal.com 2015-01-31 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it!!!!
