Feb. 23rd, 2012 02:05 pm2012 has been kind of stressful.... Mostly more of the same stuff though. My body is really good about letting me know it doesn't like this kind of stress. I have had the plague for about a week. Okay... its probably just a cold but has really sucked. I took the day off work today. I have never in all my working career done so. I felt bad, but am trying to convince myself I shouldn't feel bad. I am sick dangit!
In more exciting news, went to Vegas last weekend. The plague had started to rear its ugly head already, plus a hundred other things made it a really sucky trip. The best part of it was getting away from the strip and stopping to have coffee with
koshka_the_cat. That was very enjoyable. I miss having costuming friends nearby. It was fun to chit chat and I was able to pick up Dressing a Galaxy, The Costumes of Star Wars I have wanted the book for years, so I am happy I was able to get it for a discounted price, when
koshka_the_cat offered it. I have had some time to skim it but can't wait to be able to just pour over it. Next best thing was coming home to my Little Man. He was sooooo happy to see me.
My hubby knows the way to my heart. Instead of chocolates and flowers for Valentines day and our Anniversary, he bought me costuming books. Nineteenth-century fashion in detail , Retro Makeup: Techniques for Applying the Vintage look , and Costume in Detail Women's Dress from 1730-1930. So yes, there will be lots of Eye candy swooning and Research to be done in my future.
I did actually complete some sewing. First thing done for this year is an Alice in Wonderland Dress. I am very happy with how this came out. I didn't use any commercial patterns, which gives me a bit of confidence that my skills are improving I took measurements and drew up the pattern myself. I had her try on one mock up. Her mom asked me to make it a little big so she could use it to play dress up for a little while to come. This has a tutu petticoat (dual duty for the win!) but it got itchy before any pictures were taken. :(

Just on the hanger so I can show the pin tucks detail on the front and the bow in the back
