wool woes

I washed the fabric yesterday and it reeks! I know wool smells when its wet but this REEEEKS!!! Does anyone think it would help to take another bath or should I just continue to try and air it out.
Unfortunatly there was a small staple in the salvage. I missed it amoungst the 10 yards of fabric, before I put it in the washer. So now there are rust stains on the fabric. I am so beyond frustrated with the whole stinky mess. I am waiting to have my melt down till after I see if I can cut around the marks. Or statically place them where they won't show. So if I can't and you happen to notice them remember I am an explorer/adventurer and I would have gotten dirty, and not my stupidity and having missed a STUPID little staple.

Bummer about the staple!!! It's worth trying some stain removers.

Is the fabric dry yet? Wool smells like wet dog when wet, and even worse when being ironed (hot wet dog), but it really shouldn't keep smelling like that when perfectly dry.

It has a vinegar or ammonia type smell. Ugh!! But it is getting better with being outside thoroughly drying.

UGH. that's so annoying! I would try some stain removers, but maybe test it on a small patch beforehand to see how the wook reacts to it.

Also, see how it smells when it's completely dry, if it still smells manky, maybe wash again?

I still have to wash mine.. :/

Like [livejournal.com profile] nuranar said, wool usually smells when wet. I've met some wools that were positively acrid when even the just a bit rain-damp before, but didn't smell at all when dry. If it smells still when it's 100% dry I would probably try something like Febreeze, myself. Or, I've seen people recommend using white vinegar/water rinse to remove smells in wool clothing, but if it's already vinegar-y I dunno? Some of my wools still smell a bit if I iron them but don't carry a scent when being worn.
