Everyone keeps saying how they are either not going to or limiting their limited classes. I have seen some mention of no classes to optomize their socializing. And I am over here "I want to take ALLLLLLL the classes". Maybe you are all light-years ahead of me in your costuming expertize and I really am not one of the 'cool' kids. :( A friend brought up that I it might just be because I am a differnt breed of costumer. I love cosplay and historical equally which means I want to learn everything I can about both, and there are more classes I am interested in then what just a hisorical costumer would be. But still... feeling slightly bummed. I love socializing with everyone. I missed it last year. Not sure why but the vibe was different. I got maximum visiting time with my roomies, (which of course is AWESOME) but so many of you are not roomies, because really, we just don't have the bed space for that kind of nonsense. Think pink princess party all the time. I don't know about you but this girls needs introvert recharge and sleep time! :)
So socializing IS a priority for me at CoCo. But learning is a VERY VERY close second. I get upset if I don't maximize that also. Its only once a year that I can be a complete sponge. While costumed socialized events only happen a handful of times a year, Spongelike learning for me is only once.
All that to say, while I am going to try and learn as much as possible I hope you guys will still love me and let me come join what ever shenanigans you are up to when I am out of classes.
I signed up for the
I signed up for Mechanical wings, Resin casting, Needlefelting, Seamless lace garments, Leather Tooling, and Latice smocking classes. I know I won't get them all but I would be over the moon with the first two and happy with the rest. My #1 top pick that I NEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDD to take overlaps with the class I am taking. :( I want to take the Worbla one SOOOOO bad. I was pouting for awhile. But now I think I am going to splurge on the how-to books I have been eyeing and come highly recommended.

This is my first go at CoCo, so I'm ALL YOUR CLASSES ARE BELONG TO ME-- but I am also worried I will miss out on socializing with friends. I think we need to organize some kind of text party so if we have free time, we can text out and whoever else has free time we can meet up somewhere and not be all lost roaming the hallways!

You are so much different then me on my first time. I was terrified!!! Knew only a few people online and had one friend. Socializing was not my top priority.
I will happily give my # for texting for meet ups.

Well, I have the advantage of getting to know you all right here! I wouldn't be so confident if I didn't know anyone!

When the time rolls closer I'll get a round up of anyone who wants to share numbers for texting at CoCo, so we can all be in touch and know where the party is! I went to a costume thing recently in a big hotel, and I felt lost half the time because all the people I knew were scattered and no one knew where anyone was and I felt like I missed out on all kinds of stuff. It's a real fear for CoCo!

Well, I'm not going and never have, so feel free to ignore me...but I admire your desire to learn and I think it's really cool that you're so into both cosplay and historical costuming. I love your posts on both and I think it's totally fair to want to take the opportunity to learn as much as you can!

Has anyone thought of putting a Google spreadsheet together where people can like...enter their own class schedule for the weekend and everyone can see who's free when? Would that even be helpful?

It maybe helpful, I don't think it's ever been thought of on a massive scale. It happens in rooms Thursday night though.
And thank you. It's hard sometimes to find my group when I love both. Most like one or the other.

Aww... I hope my post didn't make you feel bad! :( I think most people are there for the classes, and that's awesome! It's not a cool kid/not cool kid thing. I'm just a horrible class-taker and I get antsy and lose focus about about 5 minutes unless it is something really spectacular. I much prefer to learn things on my own. I think teachers often make terrible students. Good lord - you should see our professional development days! Everybody is on their phones or doodling or grading papers or trying to sneak out. I'm really happier when I'm not pinned down in one place and I can spend my time hanging out with people that I only get to see every 2 years or less. That's just what makes me happy - not what makes me cool. :)

But I'm excited about the classes that everybody else is taking, and I hope you will give us slackers an overview about what you learned! I wish I had a better attention span for classes - I just want them to all be 10 minutes long where I get a handout and look at examples and then leave. lol!

Hey, if they treated it like speed dating, it would be great! We could get a good taste of so many classes and then goof off by the pool with our friends the rest of the day! I'm in!

I could've written this comment.  I'm so much the same!

Especially learning on your own.  I'm so stubborn.  And sitting still. Not one of the easiest things for me :)

Don't worry, it wasn't one post but an observation of several. I am just an oddball this year. But I have long known my learning style is very hands on.
And when I say cool kids I mean all the people I want to hang out with. ;)

I'm totally with you. I think there's so many classes this year that sound really interesting! Way better variety than last year, really, where so many of them felt like repeat classes. I signed up for 6 limiteds, would be happy if I get 4 (I had two sets of overlapping classes), and have realized that I'm pretty much filling up my whole days with classes. But I'm looking forward to learning a ton!

I want BOTH! I want to take so many classes and socialize all the time. But I really couldn't afford to take some of the limiteds I would have liked to sign up for. So I limited my limiteds and looked on the bright side of being able to socialize more. Also, one of my limiteds is your multi-colored death head buttons class. So excited for that one!

It is really interesting that because you do historical and cosplay you have a much broader range on interests. I think that's so awesome!

With us enthusiastic newbies joining this year, I am sure all you veterans will be searched out and forced to hang out with us at various times throughout the weekend. ;)

I am happy to know my limited class is of interest! And I do know the limited funds restricting from past years. And please please find me at any time!!

Aw, don't feel bad. You ARE one of the cool kids!

I only signed up for a few classes mostly because everything I wanted conflicted but also because I thought a LOT of the unlimited classes sounded really cool. And I'm a bit like Jen in that I like to figure out things myself so stuff I thought I could figure out on my own I didn't sign up for.

I'm increasingly into cosplay AND historical too. Maybe we can do some get togethers and teach each other stuff. I am very, very curious about the mysteries of Worbla...

btw one of the unlimiteds I signed up for was resin casting so if we both get in I'll see you there!

All the people I want to hang out with = cool kids.😜
I would love to get together with you, I love learning (and sharing what I know) but get super frustrated trying to figure things out on my own. And you don't live that far away, at least in my driving terms.
I think the class would become infinitely more interesting if you are in it also!!!

I know how you feel! I looked at a bunch of the classes and many of the limiteds were right out simply because of "Student Brings: Sewing machine..."

I've always felt a little inferior to everyone else because I have no interest in taking the classes. Like there must be something wrong with me for not getting all excited about all those amazing learning possibilities and for preferring to continue doing research at home by myself. I think it's very admirable to devote your time there for making the best of everything CoCo has to offer and that's way cooler than my lazy class skipping. And I hope you already know that you are always welcome to all my shenanigans and I can't wait to see you!

CoCo is such an incredible learning opportunity, particularly if you are a very hands-on person. If you want to take classes and socialize, go for it. What makes you cool is that you ARE cool. Not the folks you hang out with. :) Maybe next year I will finally make it back to CoCo. They need to stop scheduling it right during/before I have to take kids to college!

I love the classes and I love the socialising! You know what we need, more people to arrive early and go to museums and play on the beach and things, so we get to socialise before classes start :) and they really should schedule a break each day when there are no classes, but I guess that's impossible with the number of classes they have to fit in.
All this from the girl who is quietly sobbing because she can't go this year :(

I've felt the same way (maximize all the learning!), but I've discovered that I don't want to be over-committed and spend hours trying to finish a project by the end of class. I'm slow. :p And there's the extra cost. So I only signed up for two limiteds, but lots of the unlimited classes look interesting.

I've also run into the competing-schedules thing, which is no fun when you want to socialize but everyone is in classes, and then when you're in class, everyone is out socializing and you miss it. :( Did people ever agree on a meeting area, or something along those lines?
