I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!! I started by pulling everything out of the space. Holy cow that got out of hand.

I think I'm a hoarder. I was only able to part with 1 and a half kitchen sized trashbags of stuff. I went with the bag rule. If it could make a costuming bag I kept it. Or if it was long strips because I could use those for binding. It was really hard!!!!
These are my UFO bins. I'm telling you guys I have a problem. This is after I purged what I could bear to get rid of. A fairy costume, an embroidery project, a scrub top, a quilt. My goal is to finish enough UFOs that I am only using the bottom bin.

And the finished project. I would like to get to a point where my stash is only the 6 big containers, (Wool, Silk, Linen/cottons, Everday/vintage fabrics, Quilting Cottons, Cosplay fabrics), which means 2 medium and one small tote need to be used up, sold, or donated, and the medium UFO tote needs to have the projects inside done. I would also like to get down to just two of my pattern boxes.

For now I am just happy its done and organised. Bonus to this clean up, I found some silk taffeta that I am hoping will be enough for a Early 1870's ballgown. They are both purple shots so this picture doesn't do either full justice. They look flat in the pic but not in person. I have a bit over 8 of the light purple and a bit over 5 of the dark one.

I decided to postpone the late 1860 design. I love it to much to compormise on materials and it was quickly getting to expensive. Next year!

Wow! That's some clean-up. Go you!

Oooh I have light purple silk taffeta to make an early 1870s ballgown too! We need to find an occasion to wear them together sometime in the future! (After they get made, of course. ;p)

Sounds like a plan!
Curious do you have any fashion plates you are basing yours off of. I am searching them for trim options and sadly not finding a lot.

And I have another pinterest board for this era: https://www.pinterest.com/de_lioncourt_14/1869-1875/
Good luck finding something!

Yay! Looks great! And I've decided that it doesn't count as hoarding if it's just fabric/costume supplies. xD I keep the majority of my fabric on a pantry-type shelving unit so I can pretend I don't have as much as I do, hee hee. Good thing silk folds up small...too bad wool doesn't!

Thanks.
I've seen some who use shelves and it looks so pretty. But Will the amount I have I just don't think it would work. Plus I have a lot of what I call costume fabric. Stuff I got when I first started that really isn't the best options. Or might be good for my cosplays but never historical. Or even for Little kid costumes but I won't use them for mine. But I can't seem to part with them because what if! They have helped me in a pinch too so its not completely what ifs. Its only with my sewing and crafting things that I am horderish. So maybe that's a good thing. As long as it doesn't spread to other parts of my life....

Woo hoo! Great clean up and decluttering!

Sometimes it has to be done in stages, you kind of have to ruminate on deaccessioning some things before you can let go. I just yesterday got rid of some more stuff I'd been hanging on to forever. So those last bins may not be so hard.

You know, I have noticed the same thing. Each time I do it, it is hard, but a couple things that were a definite no last time went this time. I think I am torn because I don't want to be a hoarder, and I LOVE my stuff organized. But I don't want to just throw away perfectly good things or things I could use and may regret later. I bet every hoarder says that!

Go you! I've been a LOT better about not saving small scraps, but I still hoard to a certain degree. I feel like I can donate 1/2-yd. cuts, but when it's an irregular 1/2- or 1-yd. piece of nice fabric with pieces cut out, that's where it gets awkward. I feel OK tossing out anything hand-sized or smaller, or very narrow. But I've got a bad habit of saving those white elephant scraps, thinking I'll make a matching hat/accessory/lining. I almost never do.

(I will save smaller scraps of silk and lace/embroidered/"fancy" fabrics without guilt, since they can be used for trim or decorative accents.)

I find it's easier to have a "holding area" for things I feel dubious about. Some things have come back, but most I realize I don't actually want and can feel free to donate or toss.
