I am working on the underskirt of the Autumn dress. I have been looking for tips and dress diaries for Cartridge pleating. I had found an equation for how to figure out how long the  gathers should be.... Yea I had about 2 inches of pleats and only a 1/4th of the skirt left to  gather.... So I shortened them. Still have a ways to go to see if this will work. What is the average length of a gather that you folks use?
Finals are finished! We will see how well I did.......

For cartridge pleats, I normally baste in the 'gathers' and make that fit whatever I am pleating it to. So I take the skirt and divide it into eighths (just because that works best for me), divide the waistband into eighths and make the two fit together. My pleats are normally about one inch deep. So the spacing of the pleats is just eye-balled. Hope that makes sense, if not I blame it on a full day at ComicCon. =)

Thanks for answering. I am officially on try number 3 of the perfect gather. I have the waist band split in two. So that the openings for skirt are at the same place as the bodice. Which opens at side back. I am also not pleating the front where the forepart is. So it make it interesting on spacing. But the equation I had for how deep to make them did not work. It figured out to 4 inch deep pleats.... Not so good.
