So I might be biting with the lost hope group. I've been intrigued since jenthompson first did hers. Then the group idea came up but I talked myself out of it. But Loren had me 95% convinced Saturday and after revisiting my stash, I think I want to do it. I've been hoarding some silk for the purpose of making a snow/winter/ice fairy. So why not make that fairy now.
My plan is to make a historically accurate white base dress. Pretty much the same one I just made but with different sleeves and bodice front. It may seem silly to be making another white dress but the one I have is going to be covered in embroidery. Colorful flower embroidery. Not the winter fairy I envision. Besides everyone needs a good base white dress to make accesories and separates to mash things up, right?
My favorite part about this project is while the pieces I put on top of the base dress will be HA inspired, I can break rules. I can add modern techniques to get the snow and ice feel. It's my favorite part of this being a fantasy dress.
I'm not sure which costume I am most looking forward to now, the GoT, Lolita red riding hood or the Lost Hope Winter Fairy.

In the book Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell Lost Hope is the name of the manor where the fairy The-Gentleman-with-the-Thistledown-Hair lives. Many other fairies are there attending his ball and they are all very eerie. It's basically gothic fantasy Regency fairy costumes.

YES!! That will be so awesome! :D I love how we can make both HA stuff AND crazy fantasy stuff for these.

And I swear one of the fairies in the book has a gown the color of "a winter sunset" or something like that so it will be perfectly apropos!

Oooh fun! I had thoughts of doing something like this too, but didn't feel like buying new stuff. Winter is a great one for Regency! This is going to be so pretty!

Yay! Can't wait to see what you come up with! Since Loren started her project I've been kicking around the idea of doing a Lost Hope fairy myself as I love the book...I just don't have anywhere to wear it! But it's such a great idea! Still on the fence hmmmmm.
