Fabric and quizes
Jun. 19th, 2007 02:22 pmI am also joining in on the quiz I keep seeing. I think it is great so yes I will be a sheep too.
1. Are you the type of stitcher who works on one project start to finish, or do you work several different projects at once?
I try really hard to only work on one project at a time. Or at least not start any new projects until I have finished the first one.... But I must admit I suffer from Costuming ADD and am never working on just one project at a time.
2. How do you decide which projects to begin? Need? Whim? Herd mentality?
*Grin* This is exactly how I begin a project. "Ohhhhh pretty!!!!!! I want/need." And then I begin to rationalise it with how or why I need it and when I will wear it.
3. What are the sorts of things that will cause you to hurl said project(s) into the corner and consign them to the pit of Hades?
Fitting..... Or being low on fabric and sewing a seam backwards.....
4. Once consigned to Hades, will you ever return to the d*mned project and complete?
They are never really gone forever.... At least not yet. I usually pick it back up the next day. Or the day after that.
5. What about those projects you complete, and then decide you hate for whatever reason (doesn’t fit, don’t really like how it looks on you, etc.) How do you dispose of them?
Have I mentioned I am still a beginer sewer. There has only been one thing that I just couldn't stand once I was done. I had also learned a great deal in the process of making it and could not believe I had thought it was accurate or good. I sold it on ebay....
6. When disposing of old costumes, do you pick off the good bits (the nice lace, the vintage buttons, etc.) to use on future projects, or does the dress move on to the great wardrobe in the sky more or less intact?
Ummmm after refering to the above question and answer I am going to say no. That would of been cheating the person who bought it.
7. Of course imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but have you ever gone anywhere (including to various Web pages) and found a gown that looks suspiciously like one that you created?
I don't think I sew nearly well enough to be an inspiration to anyone. I think I would be extremely flattered to find my name or a link back to my site because I was the inspiration of their gown.
8. Have you ever lifted design elements from the gowns of other costumers? (Let me be specific: Not vintage garments, not film costuming, but gowns created by costumers you have come across, either at events, cons, or on the Web.)
I have. When you see something that is just PURTY!!!! You want to make it your own. I try very hard to get permission prior to link back to them or mention their name on my webpage so I can give them credit for the orginial design. I think it would be wrong otherwise.
9. If you could pay someone to do one hated task involved in sewing, it would be…
All I can think of right now is curved hems. *grumble grumble*
10. What are you working on now?
My costume con line up!
Actively working on right now: Noble Italian Renaissance, Drunken master from Dead or Alive 4, and a mundance skirt.
Collecting fabric and notions for a Celtic Can Can girl, a 1600 Samurai, and the rest of the Okinawan Fabric corset outfit except the corset.
Waiting to start on a Okianawn Fabric corset, Lei Fang from Dead or Alive 4. Will start on them as soon as I finish one of the above.... Or at least that is the plan.
